Who's In It?
Dermot Mulroney, Lin Shaye, and Stefanie Scott
What's It About?
A heartwarming tale of a mother teaching her daughter the effects smoking has on your breathing from beyond the grave - or a malicious ghost trying to steal a girls soul, however you look at it.
What's It About?
I'm just going to preface this review with the fact that I've never seen either of the previous Insidious films, so there may be a lot I missed.
One of the first things I noticed about the film is how it tried to play on all the usual shaken family themes - mother has died, father is useless and always working, and the daughter is left to get her brother ready for school and hates the father for it. I can see why they took this route though, it set up perfectly for a rescue and touching reunion of father/daughter multiple times.
Retired psychic in "The Further"
The real fun in the film came from the retired psychic, she goes from shy old widow to absolute badass every time she visits "The Further" - which is also a pretty cool place in and of its own right. The Further is where The Man Who Can't Breathe lives, and he's the creepy zombie-esque demon of the film. With a combo of his awful breathing sounds and the souls he eternally torments, it created a really interesting world I wouldn't mind seeing more of.
More inventive and slightly funnier than what I expected, as a non-horror fan I could see this being a film I would rent with friends just to see how they react to the build up scenes, but other than that it's just another horror flick.
