~Witching Wednesday~ (Now on Thursdays!) ~ Let’s Get Crafty!

It’s that time of year again where we get crafty round these parts!

Instead of our usual Tuesday’s Travels this week I’m bringing you ~Witching Wednesday~, where I’ll show you how to make a homemade Halloween costume that not only looks amazing but requires no sewing AND you get to eat loads of sweets, win/win!

I love making Pinterest come to life one pin at a time so when I saw this costume idea I just knew I had to make one. While I did use a ruler to get the lines straight I wasn’t that bothered with measuring & marking, preferring to just cut by eye as I just don’t have the time all that measuring involves.

John Wick 2 Trailer Sneak Peek!

Taking a break from our usual Flicks on Friday broadcasting; we bring you the teaser trailer for JOHN WICK 2!!

John Wick was unanimously agreed here at gaff cherry (sorry Mam) as one of the best films of 2014 - and I even preferred it to BOTH Raid films. It was quick, interesting and most importantly FUN(!!), with one of my favourite club scenes in any movie - including the fantastic techno/electro hybrid song LED Spirals & Shots Fired (a mix of both songs).

Luckily for us the trailer will be debuted at New York Comic-Con which is on right now, so expect it in the next couple days!!

Lusty Beg Island, The Most Magical Staycation I've Ever Had.

This last weekend saw CherrySue and I hit the road for a long overdue road trip, and our destination was somewhere very special indeed. We were invited to Lusty Beg Island for some rest and relaxation - and boy, was it needed!

Lusty Beg (meaning small and fertile) is nestled in the Fermanagh Lakelands right beside her sister island Lusty Mor (large and fertile). Sue had told me about her previous trip to Lusty Beg Island which you can read about HERE. I knew I just had to go to experience the secluded island getaway for myself.

Access to the island is by ferry which operates on demand. Traffic delays caused by bus strikes and road works meant that we arrived much later than we had intended. We needn’t have worried as when we got there we made it in perfect time to catch the ferry returning to the island after dropping off some wedding guests to the main land.

If you were watching along on Snapchat you'll know I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to cars on water - dogs in the vicinity could hear the silent screams. To be fair, we were perfectly safe, the guys make this crossing all day, every day.

The restaurant was unfortunately closed, but the bar staff and offered us our choice of meal from the menu. It was a lovely gesture but we didn’t want to put them to too much bother, after much instance (akin to Mrs Doyle) that we could have anything, we asked for the easiest dish to make on the menu.

To my delight we were served tasty club sandwiches and bowls of chips, the sandwich was delicious with thick juicy bacon and succulent strips of chicken breast - hitting the spot perfectly.

I was also pleasantly surprised to discover we had a choice between a few gins(!!), and they even stocked my favourite Fever-Tree tonic water with elderflower!

We arrived under the cover of darkness so I didn’t get to see the whole island until Saturday morning, it really is spectacular, the island is 75 acres of secluded heaven. Even in overcast weather, it's a magical place; unlike any other I've visited. Sue was telling me how spectacular it is in the sunshine but all I could think was how cosy the log cabins would be in the depth of winter with log fires burning.

There's a vast array of activities to choose from on Lusty Beg: everything from a high octane thrill ride in a speed boat around the lake, to a Lazy Days VOYA seaweed bath. Both Sue and I chose a back massage and a facial, we then floated out of the spa a few hours later after making full use of the sauna, pool and outdoor hot tub.

The Tomahawk steak, priced at €50 for two
(that also fed a very hungry Heidi Peep with a literal Doggy Bag :))

As luck would have it lovely Emma from Fluff & Fripperies (one of our best bloggy pals) and her hilarious husband Mr. Fluff were also there, not only that, we were ALSO STAYING IN APARTMENTS THAT HAD ADJOINING DOORS! Cue lots of chats and laughs over a relaxing drink with good friends that went way into the wee hours and it did us all the world of good.

The staff in the restaurant had no issue amending our separate table bookings to a table for four at dinner. The food was locally sourced and extremely impressive - I’d highly recommend a Tomahawk Steak and a bottle of inky Chilean Malbec between two, my mouth is watering just writing that!

I was asked many times over the course of the weekend via social media if I’d recommend Lusty Beg for children, the answer is a resounding YES.

I’d love to take my children there as they’ve a few different choices of accommodation such as lakeside cabins, courtyard rooms, and also some self – catering options in lodges or chalets (depending on the size of your family).

While clay pigeon shooting, archery or off road driving may not be suitable for children; there’s a whole host of things that are suitable such as walking or cycling one of the nature walks on the island, playing in the playground or games room, swimming in the pool, or having a game of tennis on the tennis court.

You’ll also be spoiled for choice of things to do in the area should you choose to leave the island during your stay - cruising Lough Erne, horse riding, fishing, shopping, or a visit to the butterfly garden at Castle Archdale.

You’re sure to find something to keep your little ones entertained.

Lusty Beg currently have a couples offer on their site: 2 nights midweek for 2 people in a lakeside cabin, with a couples seaweed bath and full access to the pool, sauna, steam room, pool and outdoor hot tub for £225/€261.

Of course you could escape with a loved one but I'd highly recommend packing your sister into the car and enjoying a two day breather as we did. That or packing a whole group of pals and making an event of it.

*Disclaimer*
While we were invited guests on Lusty Beg
I was not asked for this review, nor was it expected.
All views are my own and, as ever, a free weekend
in a hotel would not sway my opinion.

Monday's Moments ~ 03/10/16

Yep, it's been a trying couple of weeks but that means it's probably more important than ever to recognise the little things, right? There is a huge amount to be grateful for, even as tough as it's been so let's do that, shall we?

The Moments easing my Monday Blues this week are..........
