The L'Oreal Professional Steam Pod - Please Talk Me out of Buying One!

My first experience of the L'Oreal Professional Steam Pod last week was so revolutionary that it actually made my Monday's Moments this morning. For a hair styling tool, that's unheard of.

I received a surprise appointment as a gift from my better half (surprise as in a day's notice, not hair styling ninjas surrounding me suddenly) so attended the local hairdresser with hair unwashed and ready to be wowed. I was wowed.

I'm not normally one for selfies but, please, just look at that grúaig. I colour it myself, with Olia usually and hadn't done so in almost a month so the brightness is all down to the Steam Pod. But how does it work, you ask? Just like this:

My entire appointment took just 25 minutes and that includes a wash with Kérastase Cristalliste shampoo and conditioner (my HG combination btw) and a keratin leave in heat treatment, that was blast dried through my hair before the stylist used the L'Oreal Steam Pod.

My hair was sleek and shining in seconds, there wasn't a huge amount of steam as the Steam Pod comb attachment glided through my hair sections quickly and effortlessly. I had used the GHD previously but never had a flyaway, frizz free result like this before and it certainly never had the lasting effect that this treatment does.

3 DAYS LATER!
I didn't have to brush through my hair once in the following three days, just ran through it with my fingers. Normally I wash it every second day but, honestly, this felt like I'd just stepped out of the salon with a fresh blow dry each morning, even though the rest of me resembled the Wreck of the Hesperus.

All in all the glossy, tangle free, shiny effects lasted 4 days before I washed it again and that includes hopping in and out of the shower daily with my hair tied in a loose bun AND sleeping on it tied up with a bobbin so this is the question(s) - do I need one for at home? Would I ever achieve this good a result by my lonesome with only two stubby arms?

LookFantastic.com have the L'Oreal Steam Pod HERE for €165 (down from €220.45), there's Free Worldwide Delivery and 10% off your first order. In fairness the treatment only costs €20 per go, that's actually €5 cheaper than a blow dry in my local hairdresser (I like to support the underdog).

I'd love your input and I'll ponder on it some more, one thing's for sure though - I'm hooked.

*Update 2017
I succumbed! Full updated post upcoming!
I've also just changed that link
to a Skimlinks link -
this means if you make a purchase using
it, I'll get a few sheckles too. It won't
cost you a cent. You can clear your cookies
and search again if you'd rather that didn't happen.
I'd suggest making that decision after a nap, ya'know? :)

I would love to try that out, can't believe how great hair looked even on day 3! I have to wash mine every second day to look anyway presentable so this might be a winner. x

K, so how often do you go to the hairdresser for a blow dry? If it's even once a month, then the purchase would pay for itself just on 7 months - not counting if you have to wash your hair less often, you're also saving a bit on 'poo and conditioner. Thereafter, you would actually be saving money, if it's well enough made it doesn't blow up on you *and* you stick with using it. That's what you really want to ask yourself - will you use the thing? If so, go for it. I'm a bit disappointed you still have to wait for your hair to dry, I cannot wait for a wet to straight product that really works (the Remington thing is pants. Meantime, I'm sticking with the GHDs I got 10 years ago

Not sure I can get you out of this, I WANT one!!! I have super thick hair and if I don't blow dry it's frizzy, not nice frizz, ugly frizz! This would make my life so much easier since on some days even the flat iron doesn't do.

Your arguments are uhmazing! I get a blow dry probably twice a month, sometimes more if there's a bajillion things on. Truth is, if I thought I could master this, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I might have been a little confusing about the wet/dry thing. She only blast dried my hair (for approx 3 mins) to set the heat treatment. I left the salon with my hair as is in the top pic. I honestly think my breakage with the wet to dry Remington was because hair shouldn't be scorched dry. I only ever got ok results with that and the Big Hair if I blast dried first.
Anywho - my childer may starve because of your convincing comment - just so you know...

Sorry for burdening you with this want but seriously I WANT. Gal in the vid had pretty unruly frizz too and her results are with no brushing! It's kind of a big deal.

I think I may purchase this when my GHD breaks. (I have it years and it is still going strong, I may have to start dropping it from great heights to speed it along!)

This thing that puts me off is that you can only use filtered water in it and some people have complained that it has started to leak after a few months.

I love how with a GHD you can just pick it up, turn it on and go. No faffing about with water.

I actually purchased my Steampod last month. I have gone from washing my hair every day to every 3 or even 4 days and no straightening in between. It took 2 or 3 uses to get my technique right but now I can do my whole head in 5 minutes. I get smooth, sleek hair that isn't dry or flat, my hair looks healthier and shinier and feels fabulous. I would not hesitate to recommend that you but one immediately. Jude xx @jadlgw

My best friend has one of these but she won't let me play with it!! Her hair is crazy thick and it works so well on her. Cheaper than a GHD and clearly better. You have to get one!

I bought one of these 2 days ago! I have crazy unruly hair - we're talking Mufasa from the Lion King here, and it's down to my waist, not even the GHD will tame it (well, it lasts for 30mins before the air turns it into a frizz ball), and since I bleach my hair (it's red) and want to keep it super healthy and long I never ever blow dry it and only take the GHDs to it once a week at the weekend, so after hearing about this from a hairdresser friend I HAD to buy it!!! This blog made me feel better about buying it! I cant wait to get it!!
