One of my fave Dublin boutique hotels is about to host a very special event with a very special intent and I reckon it will be one of the most interesting evenings to date. Dine in the Dark will coincide with World Sight Day on Thursday October 10th and Dylan Hotel are donating 100% of the proceeds to the Irish Guide Dogs.
Diners will be blindfolded in a darkened room, while served a five-course tasting menu prepared by Dylan executive head chef, Glenn Murphy. I tried out a very similar event in Amsterdam a couple of years ago and have been bleating on about it since. We were in a completely black room and served by blind waiters and it was one of the most brilliantly surreal experiences I've had.
Without the sense of sight, all other senses are heightened, the food tastes completely different, smell and texture become more important and the conversation gets very interesting indeed.
“We are inviting people to try a new sensory experience in aid of Irish Guide Dogs,” said Sinead O’Keeffe, commercial manager with Irish Guide Dogs. “This event is an opportunity for individuals and companies to gain some awareness into what the world is like for blind and visually impaired people. By taking part, you are not only enjoying a unique sensory experience from one of Dublin’s finest restaurants, you are also making a positive difference in terms of awareness and transforming how people think about vision impairments.”
Tickets for these incredibly memorable events are €80 with every cent going directly to the charity. To make a dinner reservation for Thursday, 10th October or Friday, 11th October, please call 01 660 3000 or email reservations@dylan.ie. Group bookings are also available for lunch and dinner.
