Who's in it?
Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, Terry Crews and Neil Patrick Harris
What's it about?
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is about scientist Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) being hired by the Steve Jobs-esque Chester V to join 'The Live Corp', a company made up of all the best inventors in the world for the betterment of the planet. Chester then tasks Flint with going back to the completely overrun Swallow Falls to destroy his FLDSMDFR which changes water into food, but has gotten out of control and is creating dangerous "foodimals". Flint gets all the favourites from the first film together and they set off to destroy Flint's greatest invention with a virus on a B.S. U.S.B (hehehe).
Any Good?
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 is one of my favourite animated, comedy, or even just general movies ever, it was hilarious with plenty of obvious jokes but also subtle less noticeable ones for the older viewers while still being heartwarming. The thing with the sequel is it's one of those things where you didn't really want it, but after seeing it you know you NEEDED it.
Now I do know that the first film was based on a book, but this sequel is a lot different from what I've read about the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 novel; that's a lot more serious while this is more for amusement.
I adored the original film, and just for the brilliant food-animal puns (flamangos, apple pie-thons and Cheespiders are among them) Cloudy 2 just made me fall in love with it even more than 1. Due to the stupid animals you see and try to name (you totally should), there's an added interest in an otherwise generally funny and engaging film. The favourites are definitely back this time, the Dad having more screen time, Earl the Cop as tough as ever (who is now Terry Crews since Mr. T didn't return), and Sam's amazing cameraman Manny getting more lines; this surprised me by working well and simply incorporating them instead of focusing on them and ignoring Flint like I feared they would.
And yes, Dad Tim's brow and 'stache combo are as awesome as ever
Honestly, if you're looking for a film that will give you genuine non-stop laughs then you should definitely go for this, the first was amazing and this is just as good if not better due to the puns. I haven't been doing many reviews lately due to the giant PAIN that is college, but if you leave a comment here, on Facebook or on Twitter I'll get back to you as soon as humanly possible,
The (sigh..) Eldest Gorgebag
