I've a bit of a different post for you this morning, peeps. I'm halfway through my second week off and doing sweet F A and it's got me to thinking about a few of the reasons I love my job (crazy, I know). If you'd have asked me to make a list on the Friday before I finished up it'd probably look very different. It's very easy to get a little bogged down in the day to day but there has to be positives, right?
I know we chat beauty, movies and nails here but I'd love to know what you, yep you, do for a living and one thing you love about it. I'm nosy like that but honestly find it fascinating. Of course I'm not just counting 'work' as sitting in the office all day, maybe you're a stay at home Mam (hats off to you), maybe you're looking for paid employment (again, much respect) but can you tell me one thing or one aspect of your day job that you really enjoy?
I'll start, k? My actual job is as a Road Safety Officer, there's many aspects to that but some of the main ones are:
- Managing 160 School Wardens (Lollypop Ladies)
- Supervising the Remote Monitoring System for the County's traffic lights
- Giving Road Safety talks to schools and youth groups
- Examining pupils for cycle proficiency
- Planning County events to coincide with National campaigns (Like Bike Week just gone)
That's only really the tip of what swamps my 9 to 5 but there are genuinely some fantastic elements:
- Every single day is different, not a chance of boredom. Ever
- The camaraderie within the School Warden Service is second to none
- Site visits at the crack of dawn mean I get to see the County wake up & come to life
- Learning something new every time I speak to a school. Kids can be hysterical
- That feeling of accomplishment when against ALL the odds our event is a success
So tell me, what is it you do with your average day and what's one thing that you enjoy about it? There has to something.. G'wan... Tell us...
This week my job is driving me bonkers
ReplyDeleteYou know allllll about my job and the trials and tribulations I've had over the years. My favourite thing is having my own office now. Away from all the rubbish and means the girls can come for chats whenever they want! It's the little things that help get me through the day.
ReplyDeleteThat and I've more time now to keep my little notepad open on my desktop to keep track of ideas for posts and post themselves. Am grateful for mah space!
My job as an assistant manager in a shop has absolutely nothing to do with what I spent the last 4 years studying (computing), I don't even need any qualifications to do it!! Not complainig too much though, so many of my uni friends can't find any job never mind one do with our course, so I feel kinda lucky! It's not a bad job though, I like the people I work with and it is money at the end of the day! x
ReplyDeleteBeing a part time student, allows me time to catch up with friends and family during the day. It also allows me to sort out things for people like standing around in goverment buildings etc.
ReplyDeleteBecause my wife works I do housework around the house while shes in work, and have the dinner usually on the table for her when she comes home.
Then before I head off to college we sit down, talk about the day and might watch something together.
When I come back from college she is already in bed.
I'm an account manager selling financial products to companies. I love the people I work with, we've all been in the team for at least 10 years and feel like we have grown up together, we're all in our early 30's now. BUT... we all pretty much, well hate is a strong word, dislike intensely the job. The job itself is fine but the company we work for is not so great. We are all grateful to have a job at the moment and there is not much else out there where we are. I am going onto my 4th year of a Business degree in September so I will be outta here as soon as I can after that! I want to do something that I love or that will make a difference. Great post CherrySue, love the blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm on a CE scheme as an Administrator, and i love it, its only 2 & 1/2 days per week so i'm home with the kids the rest of the week, I like where i work, but most of the people have been there for years so are institutionalised, I used to Work in Financial Services until being made redundant two years ago, i absolutely hated it, as did my colleagues, who i loved to bits, we had sooo much fun and we all still meet up regularly for drinkies
ReplyDeleteSue your job sounds deadly and the type of Job i would absolutely love, i love working with a team of people and interacting with all sorts of people, What did you do in College to qualify for the job??
Good stuff about my job (Community Fundraiser for a charity)
ReplyDelete* Some variety (still working on the balance)
* Quite self-directed
* Some cool work-mates (and some old dragons)
* Cute animals to cuddle sometimes
* The outcome of the charity is somewhat inspiring.
* I'm learning a lot.
* Travel a bit around England.
Can you tell I'm a bit sick of it all at the moment?
The job involves millions of tiny tasks and most of them are complaints, nags or whines. Volunteers (bless 'em) can be pretty bloody stroppy and not realise that your job isn't to personally cater to their whims.
Cheers,
Eleanorjane
My last job before I had my little man was working for the County Council, I used to love it - I could be in traffic one day, parking the next, arranging a presentation the next - I loved it! I got moved to the County Enterprise Board for a few weeks before I left & I hated it, it was a branch office with 2 managers and me, I was on my own all day! I'm a full-time mam now at home (a kept woman!) and although I wouldn't say I adore it, I do in a way like being the one who's in charge of the house and I like being able to clean/cook/etc my way without anyone up my tail! Sometimes I miss the adult company but sure that's what blogging's for, right?! RIGHT?! :)X
ReplyDeleteThank you for this article with job search tips. Now this is very important, as many young people are trying to realize themselves and they need sufficient financial support to achieve their goals. A friend of mine recently successfully landed a good position and advised me to call the Jobscan phone number to ask them for advice on the services they provide. I think that the advice of professionals will not hurt.
