Who's in it?
Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Téa Leoni, Matthew Broderick & Michael Peña
What's it about?
Tower Heist is the story of a group of dutiful service men & woman in one of the most elite apartment buildings in New York who decide to 'Storm the castle' when they're billionaire boss depletes their pensions in rogue deals. A little too close to the Anglo bone to be called a Ponzi scheme.
Any Good?
It has to be admitted that the trailers and posters for this movie didn't inspire confidence. Thankfully it did everything that Paranormal Activity 3 couldn't do. It outshone its trailer footage by a mile.
Coming from the director of Rush Hour and X-Men the Last Stand with a fairly weighty cast, Tower Heist is the most surprisingly funny film of the year (so far). There are one liners that still make me chuckle just thinking about them. The humour is quick and dry (my favourite kind) and although there is no way that the farcical heist plot could ever have taken place, half the humour is in watching them try.
Stiller is on form as his deadpan self and Eddie Murphy returns to his best. (Disclaimer: I don't like Eddie Murphy of late, though I love Donkey. I'm torn). Once more Michael Peña shows his comedy chops providing just as many, if not more laughs than the rest.
An homáge to I Went Down, perhaps? |
