The Immortals - Preview Review

Who's in it?

Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Luke Evans, John Hurt, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto & Kellan Lutz

What's it about?

The Immortals is a Greek Mythological tale of ancient Greece at war (again). Following the Gods' defeat of the Titans, King Hyperion (Rourke) wreaks havoc on the land and it's people in the search for Epirus Bow (Pimp my Bow in this case), a weapon forged in the heavens that will give him the power to unleash the Titans and destroy all of mankind. Theseus (Cavill) a 'bastard' peasant, secretly favoured by Zeus (Evans) is the only man to stand in his way.

Cavill, looking hella more toned than Stardust

Any Good?

Coming from the producers of 300, there were always going to be comparisons. In my honest opinion, this movie falls a little short. The story is straightforward but disjointed, not that that's a big deal when the majority of us came for the abfest (was that just me?).

The 3D is surprisingly good with this offering though and I don't normally say that. The picture is bright and the gruesome kills are glorious. There's just not enough of them. Rourke plays the off kilter, maniacal baddie so well (art imitating life, anyone?) and the rest of the cast do hold their own within the limited script.

As an aside, Frieda Pinto is as stunningly beautiful (Her make up is flawless, ladies)

King Hyperion being all Mickey Rourkey..

The action sequences in this movie are second to none, Cavill showing us, with weaponry, the importance of reduce, reuse, recycle. My only upset is that the majority of the 'good' scenes were shown in the trailers. The story is in no way fleshed out enough or cohesive enough to warrant it's pre showing build up but it is fun.

I'm torn as to whether to urge you to shell out your euro bucks for this one. Consider my thumbs waving mid air, Gladiator style.
